What Are Some Signs Your First Period Is Coming?

If we had a crystal ball, that actually worked, this would be a much easier question to answer but unfortunately we don't.

We look for other signs to help us figure it out. They say a girl can get her first period anywhere between the ages of 8 and 15, that is a lot of time to wait around.

A good first sign is when a girl starts to show signs of needing her first bra. This may sound odd but there are a lot of changes going on in the female body inside and out and this is a noticeable first sign.

Some other signs that you are getting close to the time your fist period will arrive is a small discharge, typically white in colour from your vagina, this is about 6 -9 months before your actual period arrives. Some other signs are armpit hair, and hair on your vagina. We know, not a lot of fun to talk about, but these are good things to take note of so you can determine if you are getting close to the big day or not.

With all of the uncertainty around when your period will arrive it is recommended that you keep an eye out for these body changes, talk to the women in your life like your mom, aunts, and grandmother to see how old they were when they got their first period as genetics can also play a role.

Now this is nothing you need to over think, or worry about. Your first period will come in good time. You are not alone, and there are lots of resources, and people to talk to about how you're feeling and things you can expect.

Always good to be prepared, so we recommend getting a first period kit in grade 4 or 5 and keep it with you so if the big day does show up you are ready.

You Got This!
